Missouri - Gateway to the West

Missouri was once part of the Louisiana Territory claimed by France. Fought over by France and Spain, Napoleon Bonaparte secured it for his country in 1800. In a surprise move, he sold it to the United States in 1803 is what is known as the Louisiana Purchase. It almost doubled the size of the new country. From that area, several territories were carved, including Missouri.

In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson gave an historical mission to William Clark and Meriwether Lewis - to find the Northwest Passage across the continent to the Pacific Ocean. The Lewis and Clark Expedition left St. Louis, Missouri in May 1804. They spent two and half years trekking westward. They were the first U.S. citizens to see the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains and reach the Pacific Ocean.

Today, St. Louis is known as the Gateway City. The Gateway Arch memorializes the city's role in the Westward Expansion.

The state has been the birthplace of many famous individuals, including President Harry S. Truman, baseball player Yogi Berra, author Maya Angelou, author Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), newsman Walter Cronkite, outlaw Jesse James and innovator Walt Disney.

    1. Refinancing or taking out a home equity loan or line of credit may increase the total number of monthly payments and/or the total amount paid when compared to your current situation.

    2. The relative benefits of a consolidation loan may vary over time and will depend on individual circumstances. The longer the property and loan at a new lower rate and term is kept, the more interest savings can be realized when compared to your current situation. The repayment period of a mortgage loan can generally be shortened when additional funds above scheduled monthly mortgage payments are consistently paid and applied to reduce the loan balance.
